Research firm CB Insights recently published its second annual ranking of the 100 most-promising private companies that are applying artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to their products or services. The list, culled from a pool of more than 2,000 AI startups from over 25 industries, is based on certain criteria that includes investor profile, technology innovation, team strength, patent activity, funding history, valuation, and business model.
The resulting AI 100 list ranks the most promising private artificial intelligence startups in the world, with applications in cybersecurity, healthcare, and more.
Here are the top 10 most well-funded startups:
- Bytedance: $3.1B
- Affirm: $725M
- SenseTime: $637M
- Face++: $608M
- Upstart: $585M
- UBTECH Robotics: $521M
- Flatiron Health: $313M
- Zoox: $290M
- CrowdStrike: $281M
- ZestFinance: $268M
The startups are geographically dispersed and hail from the United States (the most at 76%), Canada, the United Kingdom, Israel, Sweden, Germany, China, Japan, and India.
The category with the most AI companies was cybersecurity, with 11 total, including CrowdStrike and Cybereason, which are valued at $1 billion and 900 million, respectively.
Healthcare followed, with eight AI companies that are applying machine intelligence to imaging and diagnostics, virtual assistants, remote monitoring, and in-hospital care. According to CB Insights, AI healthcare has witnessed a record-setting pace of new companies entering this market segment.
